A CalAmp service item is one repair or vehicle upkeep task, such as an oil change or a tire rotation. Several items will make up a service schedule, which is all the maintenance required for one type of asset. You may find that you need to modify an item's settings to more particularly fit your assets' required maintenance; to do so, follow these steps:

Warning: You cannot update a service item that is already included as part of a service schedule. First you must edit the schedule (as shown in Editing a Service Schedule), removing the item you need to change from it. Then you will be able to edit the service item. Remember to go back into the schedule's settings afterward to add it again!

  1. In the sidebar menu on the left, click .

  2. Click Maintenance on the flyout menu that appears.

The Admin - Maintenance Schedules screen will appear.

  3. Click the Service Items tab at the top left.

The Admin - Maintenance Services screen will appear.

  4. If the service item is in a subgroup of the one you have selected in the Group Chooser, make sure that View Subgroups is selected at the bottom of the screen.

  5. Scroll down to the item you need to modify or filter the Name column to find it. (See Sorting and Filtering Column Data if needed.)

  6. In the row of the service item, click  at the far right.

  7. Click Edit Service Item.

The Edit Service Item dialog box will appear.

  8. To change the name of the item, select the text in the Service Item Name field and type the new one, using the plainest of terms for the service — such as Oil Change or Tire Rotation.

  9. If you would like to place the service item in a different group, click the Group drop-down arrow and select the new group from the list.
Note: Make sure that the item is the same group as the overall service schedule. Assets must also be in the same group, or in a child group, in order to have a schedule associated with them.

If you would like to be able to apply a service schedule to assets throughout your group structure, you can place it and its service items in your top-level group.
  10. If the current text in the Description field doesn't describe the service well enough, you can expand the explanation of the maintenance that should be performed (such as "Replace transmission fluid every 50,000 miles").

  11. You can change what will determine the cycle for the service item (every certain number of days, odometer miles/kilometers, or engine hours) as follows:
Note: You don't have to choose only one of these, although most items do need only one (such as an Oil Change item with an odometer cycle of 5000 miles). If you specify more than one type of cycle, the service will be marked as due on the Maintenance dashboard when the first milestone hits.
    • To set the cycle using days: To the right of By Date, under Frequency, enter the number of days for the cycle (such as 365 for an annual vehicle registration) before "Days." In the Reminder Before column (in front of "Days Before"), type the number of days prior to the next due date you want set as the reminder period (such as 10 for the reported reminder time frame to start at day 355 of a 365-day cycle).
Caution: The reminder settings do NOT mean that you will be sent a reminder at that juncture. Instead, this is just the reminder period on the Maintenance dashboard, which is indicated by the color yellow. (See Checking When Services Are Due.)

If you would like to be notified when a service is coming due (or arrange for someone else to be alerted, such as a lead mechanic), you'll need to set up a Maintenance Due notification. (See Creating a Maintenance Due Notification.)

    • To set the cycle using vehicle odometer values: To the right of By Odometer, under Frequency, enter the number of miles/kilometers for the cycle (such as 5000 for an oil change) before "Miles" (or "Kilometers"). In the Reminder Before column (in front of "Miles/Kilometers Before"), type the number of miles/kilometers prior to the due amount you want set as the reminder period (such as 50 for the reported reminder time frame to start at mile 4950 of a 5000-mile cycle).

    • To set the cycle by the number of engine hours the asset has driven: To the right of By Engine Hours, under Frequency, enter the number of engine hours for the cycle (such as 800 for a transmission fluid change) before "Hours." In the Reminder Before column (in front of "Hours Before"), type the number of reported engine hours prior to the due amount you want set as the reminder period (such as 100 for the reported reminder time period to start at engine hour 700 of an 800-hour cycle).

  12. Click Done.

Your item edits will appear in the grid, and a success message will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  13. Click OK to dismiss it. (Or you can wait a few seconds, and it will automatically close.)
