To edit the properties of a notification, follow these steps:

Note: If you need the alert to be triggered and sent only during a certain portion of the day (for example, if you want to be notified about excessive idling only during the workday), it will need to have a schedule. Make sure to create that schedule before editing your alert, if it doesn't already exist, following the steps in Adding a Schedule. You can also be alerted when activity occurs outside of the hours in the applied schedule.

  1. On the sidebar menu on the left, click .
     
  2. Click Notifications on the flyout menu that appears.
     
    The Admin - Notifications screen will appear.
      
  3. If the notification you want to edit is in a subgroup of the one you have selected in the Group Chooser, make sure that View Subgroups is chosen at the top of the screen.
     
  4. In the row of the alert, click at the far right. (To find it, you can sort or filter the Name column, if needed, as shown in Sorting and Filtering Column Data.)
      
  5. Click Edit Notification.
    Note: You can edit multiple alerts by selecting their check boxes and then clicking Edit in the options row that will appear at the top of the grid; however, you will only be able to update fields they have in common, such as their group assignment or notification status.
     
    The Edit Notification dialog box will appear.
      
  6. To change the name of the notification, select the text in the Notification Name field and type the new name to use.
     
  7. If you would like to place the notification in a different group, click the Group drop-down arrow and select the group from the list.
    Note: Only assets in the group you choose will trigger the notification you configure, plus its subgroups if you make the alert inheritable.
     
    Assets in groups that are higher up in your organization's hierarchy (such as the specified group's parent group) will NOT trigger the notification.
     
    If you want the new notification to be activated by all your assets, place it in your top-level group (and leave Inheritable selected).
  8. To choose a different type of notification, click the Notification Type drop-down arrow and select one of the following values, depending on what you want the alert to be triggered by:
     
    • FNL: This type is available only if your organization has purchased the CrashBoxx module. An FNL (first notice of loss) notification will be sent out if there is a potential loss event involving any of the assets in the selected group.
       
    • iOn Associated Tag Found: An alert is sent out if an asset in the group previously had a missing associated CalAmp Tag (see Employing CalAmp Tags) that has now been found — that is, it is again close to the asset's LMU.
       
    • iOn Associated Tag Missing: An alert is sent out if an asset in the group has an associated CalAmp Tag (see Employing CalAmp Tags) that is no longer in proximity to the asset's LMU.
       
    • iOn DTC Alert [OBD]: If a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), or fault code, is sent to CalAmp from an OBDII asset in the specified group, it will set off this notification.
       
    • iOn Device Input X: A notification will be triggered when the specified input is activated (given choices Input 1, Input 2, and so on).
       
    • iOn Door Status: This alert type appears in the list only for customers with door sensors. The notification will be sent when the door is in the state you select (open or closed).
       
    • iOn EV State of Charge: An alert will be sent out when the state of charge of an asset in the assigned group (or optionally, a single asset that you choose) falls to the specified percentage threshold.
       
    • iOn Event: The event you specify will activate the alert for all assets in the assigned group.
       
    • iOn Event Label: As with the iOn Event notification type, the event you specify will activate the alert for all assets in the assigned group, but this differs in that you can specify nonstandard events.
       
    • iOn Event by Asset: The event you specify will activate the notification for only the asset you choose.
      Note: In order to monitor one particular asset in this way, you must use the group the asset is assigned to for the notification you are creating (as entered earlier in step 7).
    • iOn Event v2: As with iOn Event, the event you specify will activate the alert for all assets in the assigned group, but this also allows you to narrow the triggering event by asset type, category, name, and route.
       
    • iOn Gateway Battery Level: This alert type is applicable only for customers with cargo-monitoring (supply-chain) devices. The notification will be sent when a device's battery level falls below a percentage value you specify.
       
    • iOn Gateway Environmental Sensor Breach: This type applies only to customers with cargo-monitoring devices. The alert is triggered when a temperature, light, shock, or tilt sensor's threshold has been breached.
       
    • iOn Gateway Stationary: This type is for customers with cargo-monitoring devices. The notification will be sent if a device has been stationary for a longer period of time than expected.
       
    • iOn Geofence Event: The notification will be triggered if any asset in the assigned group enters or exits one of the group's geofences. You can also select a single geofence to monitor.
       
    • iOn Geofence Event by Asset: The notification will be triggered if the particular asset you indicate enters or exits one of the assigned group's geofences. You can also select a single geofence to monitor.
      Note: As with iOn Event by Asset, this alert type requires you to select the same group in step 7 that the asset is assigned to.
    • iOn Geofence Event v2: As with iOn Geofence Event, the notification will be triggered if any asset in the assigned group enters or exits one of the group's geofences (or a single, selected geofence), but this also allows you to narrow the activation by asset type, category, name, and route, plus geofence category. You can choose to monitor just arrivals or departures or both.
       
    • iOn Geofence URLPOST Event: An HTTP POST request will be made to a third-party web application/service when any asset in the assigned group enters or exits one of the group's geofences; the request will contain detailed information about the geofence event.
      Note: This requires prior integration with the third-party web application/service.
    • iOn Hub Temperature Excursion: This alert type appears in the list only for customers with tire temperature sensors. The notification will be sent when a tire temperature value exceeds the specified threshold.
       
    • iOn Light Out Detection: Applicable for smart trailer customers, this alert is triggered if a trailer's light circuit isn't functioning properly, based on the circuit's detected state of Connected, Fault, or Unknown.
       
    • iOn Long Drive: A notification will be sent out when an asset's drive time exceeds a maximum threshold you set without an interruption of at least the specified minimum break time.
       
    • iOn Long Idle: A notification will be sent out when an asset's idling time exceeds a threshold you set.
       
    • iOn Long Stop: A notification will be sent out when an asset's stop time exceeds the chosen threshold.
       
    • iOn MIL Status [JBUS]: If the malfunction indicator lamp (Check Engine light) code is sent to CalAmp from a JBUS asset in the specified group, it will set off this alert.
       
    • iOn MIL Status [OBD]: If the malfunction indicator lamp (Check Engine light) code is sent to CalAmp from an OBDII asset in the specified group, it will set off this alert.
       
    • iOn Maintenance: You can set this notification to be triggered both when an asset's service reminder time frame starts and on the day (or mile, or hour) it is due for repairs.
      Note: This and the following notification type require service schedules to be set up and assigned to your assets. (See The Process of Creating a Service Schedule and Adding a Service Schedule for details.)
    • iOn Maintenance Due: This notification is sent out when an asset in the chosen group comes due for repairs.
       
    • iOn Missing Tag: A notification is sent out if any CalAmp Tag (see Employing CalAmp Tags) in the group is no longer in proximity to an asset's LMU.
       
    • iOn Parking Brake Over Pressurized: Only for smart trailer customers, this type of notification is sent if a trailer's parking brake chamber pressure reading exceeds 120 psi.
       
    • iOn Parking Brake Pressure Differential: This alert is only for smart trailer customers and is triggered if a trailer's parking brake chamber has a pressure differential greater than 10 psi from the other three chambers (indicating a possible air line failure or braking system leak).
       
    • iOn Service Brake - Harsh Braking: Also only for smart trailer customers, this notification is sent if the applied pressure on a service brake exceeds 60 psi (indicating hard braking).
       
    • iOn Service Brake Pressure Differential: Applicable only for customers with smart trailers, this type triggers an alert if one of the service brake chambers has a pressure differential greater than 10 psi from the other three (which also could indicate a possible air line failure or braking system leak).
       
    • iOn Speed: This is triggered if a vehicle in the assigned group travels at the speed you specify.
       
    • iOn Speed [PSL]: This is triggered if a vehicle in the assigned group travels the amount you specify over the posted speed limit.
       
    • iOn Tag Environmental Sensor Breach: This type appears in the list only for customers with cargo-monitoring devices. The alert is triggered when a tag's temperature or humidity sensor's threshold has been breached.
       
    • iOn Tag Found: A notification is sent out if any previously missing CalAmp Tag (see Employing CalAmp Tags) in the group has been found — that is, it is again close to an asset's LMU.
       
    • iOn Tire Pressure Excursion: For smart trailer customers with a TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system), this alert will be triggered if the tire pressure exceeds or falls below the thresholds you specify.
       
    • iOn Tire Temperature Excursion: For smart trailer customers with a TPMS, this type of notification is sent out if the tire temperature is greater than the threshold you enter.
       
    • iOn Trailer Drag Detection: This type of alert is only for smart trailer customers. It will notify you if a trailer's parking brake is being used while the trailer is in motion.
       
    • iOn Wear Sensor: Only for smart trailer customers, this will send out an alert when a trailer brake pad is wearing below either 15% or 30% (as you specify). The resulting notice will show the condition of all four brake pads by area (front left, rear left, front right, and rear right).
       
  9. If the alert should be triggered and sent only during a certain portion of the day, click the Schedule drop-down arrow and select the name of the schedule.
    Note: You will only be able to apply schedules in the same group as the notification (or a schedule from a parent group that is inheritable).

    As mentioned earlier, you should create the schedule before applying it to the notification. See Adding a Schedule for details.
    You can remove a currently assigned schedule by selecting None from the Schedule drop-down list.
     
    After you select a schedule, a new field will appear to its right, Schedule Reference.
      
  10. Normally, you will click the Schedule Reference drop-down arrow and select Inside Schedule (or leave it chosen), which means that the alert is sent out during the hours set by the schedule.
     
    If the notification should be triggered and sent during the exact opposite segment of the day from the schedule, click the Schedule Reference drop-down arrow and select Outside Schedule instead.
    Note: Outside Schedule was designed primarily for customers who wanted to make sure that their drivers weren't operating their vehicles outside of their authorized work hours. You could set up such a notification by following the steps in Adding an Unauthorized Usage Notification.
  11. To have the alert sent out in a different language than its current one, click the SMS/Email Language drop-down arrow and choose the one you need.
     
  12. To clarify what the notification is designed to inform the user about, select the text in the Description field and type your new explanation.
     
  13. To change the priority level of the alert, click the Severity drop-down arrow and select Low, Medium, High, or Urgent (formerly Critical).
     
  14. Normally, you will leave the Notification Status field set to Enabled.
    Note: If you want to temporarily stop using the notification, you can click the Status drop-down arrow and select Disabled or Suspended; either option will prevent the notification's triggering event from being looked for, so the alert won't be reported to CalAmp.
    If the type of alert is one that can be snoozed, a Snooze Duration Hours (1-24) field will be after the Notification Status option.
    Note: This is how the snooze feature works: When the triggering event occurs, the CalAmp application will send a notification. If the event reoccurs within the period of the snooze duration, no further alerts will be sent. If the event occurs again after the snooze duration has passed, another notification will be sent out.

    Snoozing is available only for these alert types: Door Status, EV State of Charge, Gateway Battery Level, Gateway Environmental Sensor Breach, Gateway Stationary, Generic Sensor, Hub Temperature Excursion, Light Out Detection, Parking Brake Over Pressurized, Parking Brake Pressure Differential, Service Brake - Harsh Braking, Service Brake Pressure Differential, Tag Environmental Sensor Breach, Tire Pressure Excursion, Tire Temperature Excursion, Trailer Drag Detection, Trailer Drag Detection - Parking Status, and Wear Sensor.
     
  15. To change the snooze value, click  and then click the up/down arrows to get to the new number you want. (Click outside the hour picker to close it.)
     
  16. If you want the alert to be triggered by assets in subgroups of the group it is assigned to (so the subgroups, or child groups, inherit the notification from the parent group), make sure that Inheritable is selected.
     
    If you want it to be sent out only for that single group's assets, deselect Inheritable.
     
  17. Set the triggering event as follows, depending on the type of notification you selected:
     
    • All notifications not included in the list below: No triggers need to be set for any of the alerts not described here, as any asset in the specified group will generate the notification.
       
    • iOn Device Input X: Type a name for the input that will be meaningful when the notification is received (so instead of just "Input 1," it will say, "Snow Plow," for example).
        
    • iOn Door Status: Click the Door Status drop-down arrow and select Door Open or Door Closed, depending on which state you want to set off the alert.
        
    • iOn EV State of Charge: In the Charge Threshold (Percentage) field, type the percentage value that will activate the alert if assets in the assigned group fall to that level of charge. (For example, if you enter 15, the notification will be sent when a vehicle's charge value falls from 16% to 15%.) You can narrow the alert activation further by filling in the other fields. If applicable, click the Asset Type, Asset Category, and Asset Name drop-down arrows and select in each what you want to trigger the notification.
        
    • iOn Event: Click the Event drop-down arrow and select the name of the event to activate the notification.
        
    • iOn Event Label: Type the name of the event to activate the alert.
        
    • iOn Event by Asset: Search for the individual asset you want to set off the alert by typing part of its name in the Asset Name field and select it from the results.
       
      Then click the Event drop-down arrow and select the name of the event to activate the alert.
       
      Note: The Asset Name search will return results only for assets in the same group as the notification.
    • iOn Event v2: Click the Event drop-down arrow and select the name of the event to activate the alert; this is the only required attribute. But you can narrow the notification activation further by filling in the other fields. If applicable, click the Asset Type, Asset Category, Asset Name, and Route drop-down arrows and select in each what you want to trigger the alert.
        
    • iOn Gateway Battery Level: If you want the alert to apply to ALL your cargo-monitoring devices, leave the Device field empty. To monitor only certain devices, click the Device drop-down arrow and select the device (and repeat that for all the devices you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Device List above the Device field, which will open a dialog box listing only your cargo-monitoring devices. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple devices.)
      Then type the percentage value in the Battery Level Threshold (Percentage) field that will trigger the alert. (For example, if you set this to 50, you will be sent the notice when a device's battery level falls below 50 percent.)
        
    • iOn Gateway Environmental Sensor Breach: To monitor ALL the cargo-monitoring devices in the selected group, leave the Device field empty. To specify just a few devices, click the Device drop-down arrow and select the first of those from the list (and repeat that for all the devices you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Device List above the Device field, which will open a dialog box listing only your cargo-monitoring devices. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple devices.)
      Then select the check boxes of the kinds of sensor breaches you want to trigger the alert (temperature, light, shock, and/or tilt).
        
    • iOn Gateway Stationary: To have the notification be triggered by all the devices in the group, leave the Device field empty. To monitor only certain devices, click the Device drop-down arrow and select the first of those (and repeat that for all the devices you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Device List above the Device field, which will open a dialog box listing only your cargo-monitoring devices. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple devices.)
      Then click the Minutes drop-down arrow, select a time segment, and type a time value in the Stationary Duration field. (For example, to have the notification sent out if the device hasn't moved for three hours, select Hours from the drop-down list and type 3 in the field.)
        
    • iOn Geofence Event: If you want the alert to be triggered by a single geofence, you can click the Geofence Name drop-down arrow and select its name. (You can begin to type the geofence name, and your selection will move down to matching names.) If you leave this field empty, all geofences in the assigned group will activate the alert if the group's assets enter or exit their boundaries.
       
      Note: By default, only geofences that are in the group specified for the alert will be selectable in the list, if that group has assigned geofences. (Others will be grayed out.) You can deselect the Choose Geofence in the Selected Group toggle to make geofences that belong to other groups able to be chosen for this alert.
    • iOn Geofence Event by Asset: Search for the individual asset you want to set off the notification by typing part of its name in the Asset Name field and select it from the results.
       
      Then, optionally, you can click the Geofence Name drop-down arrow and select the name of an individual geofence that will activate the alert if that particular asset enters or exits its boundary. (You can begin to type the geofence name, and your selection will move down to matching names.) If you don't specify a certain geofence, the notification will be sent for all the geofences in the assigned group.
       
      Note: The Asset Name search will return results only for assets in the same group as the alert.

      By default, only geofences that are in the group specified for the alert will be selectable in the Geofence Name list, if that group has assigned geofences. (Others will be grayed out.) You can deselect the Choose Geofence in the Selected Group toggle to make geofences that belong to other groups able to be chosen for this alert.
    • iOn Geofence Event v2: You can choose multiple factors to set off the alert if assets in the assigned group enter and/or exit one of its geofence's boundaries. You can narrow the alert activation to a single geofence by clicking the Geofence Name drop-down arrow and selecting its name. If applicable, you also can click the Asset Type, Asset Category, Asset Name, Route, Geo Event Type, and Geofence Category drop-down arrows and select in each what you want to trigger the notification.
       
      Note: By default, only geofences that are in the group specified for the alert will be selectable in the Geofence Name list, if that group has assigned geofences. (Others will be grayed out.) You can deselect the Choose Geofence in the Selected Group toggle to make geofences that belong to other groups able to be chosen for this alert.
    • iOn Hub Temperature Excursion: In the Temperature Threshold (°F)/(°C) field, type the temperature value that will activate the alert if the tire temperature of an asset in the assigned group rises above that. (For example, if you enter 158, the notification will be sent when the hub temperature increases from 158 °F to 159 °F.)
        
    • iOn Light Out Detection: If you want the alert to apply to ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. To monitor only certain assets, search for the first one by typing part of its name and select it from the results (and repeat that for all the assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only trailers with light out detection sensors. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
      Then select the check boxes of the detected state you want to trigger the alert (Connected, meaning that the circuit is functioning well; Fault, indicating that the light isn't detected; and/or Unknown, signaling that the sensor may not be working).
       
      Note: You probably won't select Connected, unless you want to be notified that your trailer lamps are working. This option was included primarily for testing purposes.
    • iOn Long Drive: Type the maximum time in minutes an asset in the specified group can travel without an interruption in the Max Drive Time field. Type the minimum amount of break time that must be reached before resuming driving in the Min Break Time field.
        
    • iOn Long Idle: Type the maximum time in minutes an asset in the chosen group can let its engine idle in the Device Idle Duration field.
        
    • iOn Long Stop: Type the maximum time in minutes an asset's stop is expected to be in the Long Stop Duration field.
        
    • iOn Maintenance: Select the Next Service Reminder Flag check box to have the notification sent out when an asset's service reminder period begins; you can also select the Next Service Due Flag check box to send a second notification on the day, mile, or hour the service is due. You can ignore the Next Service Days Overdue, Next Service Odometer Overdue, and Next Service Engine Hours Overdue fields.
        
    • iOn Maintenance Due: Select the Next Service Due Flag check box if you want a notification to be sent out when an asset in the chosen group comes due for repairs.
        
    • iOn Parking Brake Over Pressurized: If you want the notification to monitor ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. To have only particular assets trigger the alert, search for the first one by typing part of its name and select it from the results (and repeat that for all the assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only your smart trailer assets. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
       
    • iOn Parking Brake Pressure Differential: If you want the alert to apply to ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. To monitor only a few assets, search for the first one by typing part of its name and select it from the results (and repeat that for all the assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only your smart trailer assets. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
       
    • iOn Service Brake - Harsh Braking: If you want the alert to apply to ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. To monitor only certain assets, search for the first one by typing part of its name and select it from the results (and repeat that for all the assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only trailers. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
       
    • iOn Service Brake Pressure Differential: To monitor ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. You can specify only select assets by typing part of the first asset's name and selecting it from the results (and repeating that for all the trailer assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only trailers. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
       
    • iOn Speed: In the Speed field, type the speed at which you want to set off the notification (such as 65 to trigger the alert if an asset in the group travels 65 mph or over).
        
    • iOn Speed [PSL]: On the Amount Over Posted Speed Limit line, type the value over the speed limit you want to set off the alert (such as 10 to trigger the alert at a speed of 65 mph in a 55 mph zone).
        
    • iOn Tag Environmental Sensor Breach: If you want the alert to apply to ALL your cargo-monitoring devices, leave the Device field empty. To monitor only certain devices, click the Device drop-down arrow and select the first device you need (and repeat that for all the ones you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Device List above the Device field, which will open a dialog box listing only your cargo-monitoring devices. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple devices.)
      Then select the check boxes of the kinds of sensor breaches you want to trigger the alert (temperature and/or humidity).
        
    • iOn Tire Pressure Excursion: Type the tire pressure values below and above which will trigger the alert, in the Low Pressure Threshold (Psi) and High Pressure Threshold (Psi) fields, respectively.
        
    • iOn Tire Temperature Excursion: In the Temperature Threshold field, enter the temperature value above which the notice will be sent out.
        
    • iOn Trailer Drag Detection: To include ALL your trailer assets in the selected group, leave the Asset(s) field empty. You can have only specific assets monitored by typing part of the first asset's name and selecting it from the results (and repeating that for all the assets you want).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only smart trailers. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
       
    • iOn Wear Sensor: To monitor ALL your smart trailers, leave the Asset(s) field empty. To monitor only certain trailer assets, type part of the first asset's name and select it from the results (and repeat that for all the assets you want to include).
      Note: Alternatively, you can click Select from Detailed Asset List above the field, which will open a dialog box listing only your smart trailer assets. Select the ones you want in the grid and then click Done. (You can use Ctrl + click to choose multiple trailer assets.)
      Then select one of the radio buttons for the level of wear you want to be alerted to. (Critical means that the brake pad's wear has fallen to 15% or below; Caution indicates that the wear is at or below 30%.)
        
  18. Scroll down to the Notification Actions section.
      
  19. To change or add recipients, select or deselect the Email and/or SMS On/Off toggle ( means selected, and  deselected); these options have the notification sent to the concerned parties (such as one of your organization's software administrators, a driver supervisor, or yourself) by email or text.
     
    Then follow step 20 and/or 21, respectively.
    Note: You'll have to have at least one email or mobile number set up to receive the alert in order to save its changes.
  20. For Email, follow these steps:
     
    1. Type (or copy and paste) the first recipient's email address on the Primary Recipients line.
       
      You can remove a previous recipient by selecting their address and deleting it.
       
    2. If you want the notification to be sent to multiple people, type a comma after the first address and then enter the next recipient's email address (and so on).
      Note: You can now include a space after the comma. (Previously, this caused an error, but now, it's acceptable to either space the email addresses out or leave no space between them.)
    3. To add carbon copy (CC) recipients, click Add Secondary Recipients and enter their email addresses where "CC: Enter email(s)" appears.
        
    4. On the Email Subject line, you can update the email subject text by selecting it and typing a new one (perhaps just the name or description of the alert).
         
  21. For SMS, type the cell phone number of the person you want to receive the text on its Enter Number line, using the format +13175551234.
     
    You can remove a previous recipient by selecting their number and deleting it.
      
    To add multiple people, place a comma after the preceding phone number and then type the next one.
    Note: You can now include a space after the comma. (Previously, this caused an error, but now, it's acceptable to either space the phone numbers out or leave no space between them.)
  22. Click Done.
       
    Your notification edits will appear in the Admin - Notifications list.
       
    Also, a success message will appear at the bottom of the screen.
      
  23. Click OK to dismiss it. (Or you can wait a few seconds, and it will automatically close.)
