If your organization uses cargo-monitoring (supply-chain) devices and your user role has both Administrator and cargo-tracking devices privileges, you can edit the properties of an individual device, plus set its reporting rate and Temperature, Tilt, Light, and Shock thresholds, using the Edit Device dialog box as follows:
Note: Our current cargo-monitoring devices are SC1204, SC1204S, SC1204V, SC1205V, and SC1302.
If you don't have cargo-monitoring privileges but need to, contact your organization's application administrator and request that you be given a role with Cargo Tracking rights.
Adding privileges to a role is explained in Editing a Role; the Cargo Tracking toggle is in the Tracking page area.
- Open the Edit Device dialog box for the device using one of the following two methods:
Via the Admin - Devices Screen
- In the sidebar menu on the left, click .
- Click Devices on the flyout menu that appears.
The Admin - Devices screen will appear.
By default, your devices are listed by name in ascending order (from lowest to highest for numbers, or from A to Z for words).
- Scroll down to the device you need to modify or search for it as shown in Searching for Devices.
- In the row of the device, click at the far right.
- Click Edit Device.
Note: You can edit multiple devices by selecting their check boxes and then clicking Edit in the options row that will appear at the top of the grid; however, you will only be able to update fields they have in common, such as their group assignment or status.
- Skip down to step 2.
- In the sidebar menu on the left, click .
- Via the Tracking Screen
- In the sidebar menu on the left, click .
- Track the device as shown in Viewing Cargo-Monitoring Devices on the Tracking Screen, up to the point of opening its Details pane.
- Click to the right of the device's name.
- In the sidebar menu on the left, click .
- The Edit Device dialog box will appear.
- To change the name of the device, select the text in the Device Name field and type the new one.
Caution: It is NOT recommended to change a device name after it's been in service and tracked by the CalAmp application if you want to continue to track it. This can cause confusion when mapping the device's history. - If you would like to place the device in a different group, click the Group drop-down arrow and select the new group from the list.
Note: The available groups will be the one you have selected in the Group Chooser and its subgroups. - Normally, you will leave the Status field set to Enabled.
Note: A very few CalAmp customers have a setup in which devices can be disabled to prevent the device's use (for example, if their customers have ceased payment). If that's the situation you are looking at, you can click the Status drop-down arrow and select Disabled or Suspended.
By default, the GPS Activated and Tag Enabled toggles will be set to On.
- You should leave these enabled unless you have a strong reason to turn off GPS tracking or the CalAmp Tag location capabilities.
- If you would like to enable detection that will turn on Flight mode and Ocean mode, select those toggles.
Note: These do not place the device into Flight mode or Ocean mode, either of which will turn off device reporting in order to conserve battery (similar to putting a mobile phone into Airplane mode). Instead, when you set these toggles to On, the device will then be ready to determine whether it is in flight or on the ocean, using acceleration and pressure data or the cellular network. After it discovers that it is, it will then turn on the appropriate mode.
The first two drop-down lists of the Reporting Rate section set the rate at which the device will report to CalAmp when it is moving (When in Motion) and when it is immobile (When Stationary).
- To change these, click the drop-down arrow and select from the time options (ranging from 1 Minute to 24 Hours).
Warning! Be careful with the reporting rate. Sending data to CalAmp every five minutes will use up significantly more battery power than every hour. - To set how often the cargo's temperature is communicated to CalAmp, click the Set Temperature Logging Rate drop-down arrow and choose the time you need.
These options range from 1 Minute to 8 Hours but also include a STOP REPORTING choice, which will prevent the device from sending temperature data to CalAmp altogether.
The Thresholds area is for setting the minimum and maximum values that are acceptable for the items your device is attached to. (For example, if the device is in a box containing a vaccine, there might be a temperature that is too hot to safely keep it; you would set the Temperature Maximum value to that number.)
The available thresholds will vary, depending on the type of cargo-monitoring device you are editing. Each one corresponds to a graph that is displayed in the device's Details pane on the Tracking screen. (See Viewing Cargo-Monitoring Devices on the Tracking Screen for details about the graphs.)
Any value that breaches one of your thresholds will appear red in its Details pane graph.
Note: In addition, a future feature is alerts based on devices reporting values outside your acceptable range.
The toggles determine whether the graph is shown in the Details pane.
- To turn the display for a graph on or off, select or deselect the toggle to the right of its name. ( means selected, and deselected.)
- To set your low and high Temperature thresholds, select the current values in the Minimum (°) and Maximum (°) fields and type the new numbers.
Then select either °C (for Celsius) or °F (for Fahrenheit).
- To set the Tilt maximum value (the degree value that is unacceptable in terms of slope for your cargo), select the current number in the Maximum (°) field and type the new one.
- You can set your lowest and highest allowable light amount by selecting the current values in the Minimum (lm) and Maximum (lm) fields and typing the new numbers (in lumens).
- To set the Shock maximum threshold (the level of applied force that will result in damage to your cargo), select the current value in the Maximum (G) field and type the new one in g (the acceleration of gravity).
- Click Done.
If you are on the Admin - Devices screen, your edits will appear in the grid.
Also, a success message will appear at the bottom of the screen.
- Click OK to dismiss it. (Or you can wait a few seconds, and it will automatically close.)
