You can edit the properties of a CalAmp geofence (an area of interest to your organization, such as a job site or an unsafe road you want to designate as off-limits, that has a geoboundary drawn around it) on the Tracking screen as follows:
Note: See Editing a Geofence for details on how to modify a geofence on the Admin - Geofences screen. The two processes are very similar.
- In the Group Chooser, select the group the geofence you want to modify is assigned to. (See Choosing a Group to View Globally for details on how to change your chosen group, if necessary.)
- On the sidebar menu on the left, click .
The Tracking screen will open.
By default, the geofence view is turned off, so your geofences may not be visible when the map first appears. If this is the case, you can enable them by clicking on the vertical toolbar at the top right of the map and then selecting the Geofence toggle. (This setting will persist across user sessions, so if you enable geofence visibility and then log out, when you log back in again, you will continue to be able to see your geofences.)
- In the filter options at the top of the screen, click the Geofences drop-down arrow.
Note: If you don't see the Geofences filter, that could be because it is being housed under the More Filters option; if your browser window isn't wide enough to accommodate all the available filters, More Filters will contain all of those that don't fit.
If that's the case for you, click the More Filters drop-down arrow and then Geofences.
A list of the geofences in your selected group (and its parents and subgroups) will be displayed.
- Select the check box of the geofence you need to edit. ( means selected, and deselected.)
Note: If the list is large, you can click and type search criteria for the geofence. (Search matches will be highlighted.) - Click Done.
The map will display the geofence you chose and zoom in on it.
- Click within the geofence's border.
A pop-up will appear.
- Click .
The Edit Geofence dialog box will open, and edit handles will appear around the geofence.
- If you want to change the size or form of the geofence, follow these steps (based on what shape was originally chosen for it):
Circular Boundary
- Click and drag one of the white handles on the edge of the circle in or out as needed.
- Repeat step a until it's the required size.
- To move the circle, click and drag the white handle in the center to its new location.

- Polygonal Boundary with a Rectangular Starting Point

- To change its size, click and drag one of the white handles on the square surrounding the polygon in or out as needed.
- To change the geofence's shape, click and drag one of the white handles on the edge of the polygon in or out as needed.
- You can click one of the circle handles to split its side into two, which will help you create a shape that is more than four sides.
- Repeat steps b and c until it's the required size and form.
- Skip down to step 9.
- To move the geofence, click and drag in its center until it appears at the correct new location.
- Irregular Boundary
- To move the shape, click and drag in its center until it appears at the correct new location.
- To change the geofence's size, click and drag one of the white handles on the square surrounding the polygon in or out as needed.
- To change its shape, click in the center of the polygon.
The handles will become orange.
Click and drag one of the handles to pull the shape that direction and repeat this as many times as needed.
- To move the shape, click and drag in its center until it appears at the correct new location.
- To change the name of the geofence, select the text in the Geofence Name field and type the new one.
- To change its description, select the text in the Geofence Description field and type the new information.
- If you want to change the group the geofence is assigned to, click the Group drop-down arrow and select the new one.
- If your organization has designated geofence categories (and you need to change or add one), you can click the Geofence Category drop-down arrow and select the category this one belongs to, such as Worksite.
Note: The categories listed will be those that are available for the geofence's assigned group or parent. - You can change what the geofence monitors, in terms of arrivals and departures, by selecting or deselecting Generate Enter/Exit Events for Reports. ( means selected, and deselected.)
Note: If this box is checked, Enter and Exit events will be recorded for the geofence (for geofence events, reports, and notifications — if you plan to create any). If it is unchecked, the geofence will just appear on the map and not trigger any geofence events (such as for a home office). - If you need to change whether the geofence is restricted in visibility, select or deselect Restricted Geofence.
Note: If a geofence is designated as restricted, only users in its assigned group will be able to view activity there — NOT users from subgroups. The restricted geofence won’t be included in reports and won’t be associated to assets in the regular (visible) way. Entered/Exited geofence alerts won’t be visible to users below its assigned group. - Click Save.
A success message will appear briefly at the bottom of the screen, informing you that the geofence has been updated.
