You can edit the properties of a CalAmp geofence (an area of interest to your organization, such as a job site or an unsafe road you want to designate as off-limits) via the Tracking screen or the Admin - Geofences screen; the latter method is shown below. The process is mostly the same on both screens. For the Tracking screen process, go to Editing a Geofence on the Tracking Screen.

Note: For an explanation of the features of the Admin - Geofences screen, see Viewing Your Geofences.

To edit a geofence using the Admin - Geofences screen, follow these steps:

  1. In the Group Chooser, select the group the geofence you need to modify is assigned to. (See Choosing a Group to View Globally for details on how to change your chosen group, if necessary.)

  2. In the sidebar menu on the left, click .

  3. Click Geofences on the flyout menu that appears.

The Admin - Geofences screen will appear, display the geofences in your chosen group on the map, and list them in the grid.

  4. To find the geofence you need to edit, you can sort the Name column, as shown in Sorting and Filtering Column Data, and scroll to it.

  5. Click the name of the geofence in the grid.
Note: Alternatively, you can click  in its row and then Edit Geofence on the menu that appears — and skip down to step 7.
The map will zoom in on it and display its pop-up window.

  6. Click Edit.

The Edit Geofence dialog box will open, and edit handles will appear around the geofence.

  7. If you want to change the size or form of the geofence, follow these steps (based on what shape was originally chosen for it):

    Circular Boundary

    1. Click and drag one of the white handles on the edge of the circle in or out as needed.

    2. Repeat step a until it's the required size.

    3. To move the circle, click and drag the white handle in the center to its new location.

    4. Skip down to step 8.

  • Polygonal Boundary with a Rectangular Starting Point

    1. To change the geofence's size and shape, click and drag one of the white handles on the edge of the polygon in or out as needed.

    2. You can click one of the circle handles to split its side into two, which will help you create a shape that is more than four sides.

    3. Repeat steps a and until it's the required size and form.

    4. To move the shape, click and drag the white handle in the center to its new location.

    5. Skip down to step 8.

  • Irregular Boundary

    1. To change the geofence's size and shape, click and drag one of the white handles on the edge of the polygon in or out as needed.

    2. Repeat step until it's the required size and form.

    3. To move the shape, click and drag in its center until it appears at the correct new location.

  1. If you want to change the group the geofence is assigned to, change the group you have selected in the Group Chooser to the new group (as shown in Choosing a Group to View Globally).

  2. To change the name of the geofence, select the text in the Geofence Name field and type the new one.

  3. To change its description, select the text in the Geofence Description field and type the new one.

  4. If your organization has designated geofence categories (and you need to change or add one), you can click the Category drop-down arrow and select the category this one belongs to, such as Worksite.
Note: The categories listed will be those that are available for the geofence's assigned group or parent.
  5. You can change what the geofence monitors, in terms of arrivals and departures, by selecting or deselecting Generate Enter/Exit Events for Reports. ( means selected, and  deselected.)
Note: If this box is checked, Enter and Exit events will be recorded for the geofence (for geofence events, reports, and geofence event alerts — if any have been created). If it is unchecked, the geofence will just appear on the map and not trigger any geofence events (such as for a home office).
  6. If you need to change whether the geofence is restricted in visibility, select or deselect Restricted Geofence.
Note: If a geofence is designated as restricted, only users in its assigned group will be able to view activity there — NOT users from subgroups. The restricted geofence won’t be included in reports and won’t be associated to assets in the regular (visible) way. Entered/Exited geofence alerts won’t be visible to users below its assigned group.
  7. Click Save.

A success message will appear briefly at the bottom of the screen, informing you that the geofence has been updated.
