You can use CalAmp IO (input/output) profiles to display custom labels for inputs on the Tracking screen; these must correspond to the actual digital inputs generated by your devices (such as a Plow Up and Plow Down label for the active and inactive status of a plow input). To add a new IO profile, follow these steps:


  1. Obtain either an install sheet or installation manual for the type of device/vehicle you are creating the profile for, making sure that it specifies the input numbers and what they are used for (such as input 2 being used for a plow), and keep it handy.
     
  2. In the CalAmp application, in the sidebar menu on the left, click .
     
  3. Click IO Profiles on the flyout menu that appears.
     
    The Admin - IO Profiles screen will appear.
      
  4. Click Add New at the top right of the screen.
     
    The Add IO Profile dialog box will appear.
       
  5. Type the name to use for the IO profile in the Name field, including the vehicle type and perhaps also the device and specified inputs, such as "4233_Sweeper_LeftBrush2_RightBrush3_Vac5" or just "Snow Plow," depending on how many kinds of profiles you have and your need to keep them differentiated.
     
    By default, the group you currently have selected in the Group Chooser will be set for the group to add the IO profile to.
     
  6. If you would like to place it in a different group, click the Group drop-down arrow and select the group from the list.
    Note: Only assets assigned to the group you choose will be able to have this IO profile applied to them, plus its subgroups if you make the IO profile inheritable. If you want the IO profile to be able to be used by every asset, in every group, place it in your top-level group (and make sure that Inheritable is selected).
  7. Leave the IO Profile Status field at its default value of Enabled.
    Note: Future plans include being able to set an IO profile to Disabled or Suspended and then not allow it to be associated with an asset. This feature isn't currently working, but it isn't likely to be what you want when you are adding a new IO profile, anyway.
  8. If you want the IO profile to be able to be applied to assets in subgroups of the group it is assigned to (so the subgroups, or child groups, inherit the IO profile from the parent group), select Inheritable.
     
    If you want it to be available only for that single group's assets, leave Inheritable deselected (or remove its check mark).
     
  9. In the Device Digital Inputs section, provide the label text for the first input, as follows:
     
    1. Under Digital Input, click the Input drop-down arrow.
       
      Input options 1 through 7 will appear in a drop-down list.
       
    2. In the list, click Input X, in which X is the first input number specified on the installation sheet or manual.
        
    3. Type a label for the first input in the Input Label field to its right, such as "Left Brush."
       
    4. In the Input Active Label field, type a label indicating what the active state of this input is, such as "Down."
       
    5. In the Input Inactive Label field, type a label indicating what the inactive state of this input is, such as "Up."
       
    6. If you want any idle time accrued when the input is engaged to be recorded as Working Idle time for the Idle Detail and Idle Summary reports, select the Working Idle When Input Active check box. (If this is not selected, any idle time will be placed under Waste Idle for these reports.)
       
  10. If you need to add labels for another input type for the IO profile, click  to the far right of Device Digital Inputs.
     
    Another set of Digital Input options will appear.
      
  11. Repeat step 9 for the second input.
     
  12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 for any further inputs you need to add.
    Note: If you add a digital input you don't need, you can click  and then Yes, Delete in the confirmation dialog box to remove it.
  13. After you have added all the inputs, click Done.
       
    If the group you placed the IO profile in is the one you have selected in the Group Chooser (or is a child group of it, and you have View Subgroups selected), your new IO profile will appear in the Admin - IO Profiles list.
     
    Also, a success message will appear at the bottom of the screen.
      
  14. Click OK to dismiss it. (Or you can wait a few seconds, and it will automatically close.)

Note: After you create an IO profile, make sure to associate it to the assets using its device and inputs (as shown in Adding an Asset and Editing an Asset). The IO profile's defined input labels won't be displayed on the Tracking screen if it is not applied to the appropriate assets.
