Alerts, also called notifications, are messages sent from the iOn system to inform users of certain asset/driver situations (as a result of event triggers from your assets' devices), such as a warning about a low battery or a missing iOn Tag. Geofence events occur when your assets enter and exit your designated geofences (areas of interest to your organization, such as job sites or vehicle yards, around which you draw geocoded borders). Both alerts and geofence events send notices to iOn.

In legacy iOn, there were two separate drop-down panels you could access to view your alerts and geofence events, using their icons in the site banner. In new iOn, there is only one panel, Notifications.

Note: It might seem like the two legacy panels have been combined into the new Notifications panel, but that's not accurate. Instead, the legacy Geofence Events panel has not been carried over to new iOn (and the Alerts panel was renamed "Notifications"). To view your geofence events, go to the Geofence Events screen. (See Viewing Your Geofence Events.)

You can, of course, see geofence event alerts in the new iOn Notifications panel if you have specifically added those notifications via Admin - Notifications (Admin - Alerts in legacy iOn). The alert types to use for those are iOn Geofence Event, iOn Geofence Event by Asset, iOn Geofence Event v2, and iOn Geofence URLPOST Event.

Be aware that geofence alerts are triggered only for assets in the group they are assigned to (or their child groups, if the notification is set to be inheritable) — NOT for their parent group or any other groups higher in your organization's hierarchy.

Note: In addition to the Notifications panel in the banner, there is a Notifications Events screen that lists all your reported alerts. See Viewing Notifications and Marking Them As Read for details on how to check your notifications and acknowledge that they've been seen (and, if necessary, handled).
