If you would like to add several assets to your CalAmp account at once, you can import all their data in bulk. To do so, follow these steps:

Note: For details on how to add a single asset, see Adding an Asset.

  1. In the sidebar menu on the left, click .

  2. Click Assets on the flyout menu that appears.

The Admin - Assets screen will appear.

  3. Click Import at the top right of the screen.

The Import Assets dialog box will appear.

  4. Under the Drag or Click to Upload Your File box, click Download Blank Template or Download Template with Assets.
Note: If these are grayed out, there will be a message saying that your content is being loaded. Wait a few seconds, and the options will become blue.

Use the Blank Template option if you are importing new assets entirely (and not updating any existing assets). Use Template with Assets if you are editing properties of current assets; you can also add new assets with the same file.

The Template with Assets option will include the assets you are viewing in the grid, so if you have View Subgroups selected, this will mean all the assets in the group you have chosen in the Group Chooser, plus those in all its subgroups.
The file assets.xlsx will be downloaded.
Note: If you have a previous version of the Excel file in your Downloads folder, a version number will be appended to the filename, such as "assets (2).xlsx." This will not affect the import process, and you don't need to change the name when you upload the file later.
  5. Open the file.

The fields that are required have a red background (Group Name and Asset Name).

  6. Fill in the required fields, plus any of the other data you'd like to include, placing each asset's properties horizontally across (in a row).

If you chose the Template with Assets option, you can update the data in the rows of existing assets.
Note: You may need to enable editing first, depending on your settings.

If you downloaded a template with your current assets, place new assets in a new row.
  7. You can see what asset types are available for the Asset Type column values (which you can select via the drop-down arrow) on the assetType subsheet.

Likewise, you can see your list of drivers on the Drivers subsheet. (You also select operators via a drop-down arrow in the Drivers column.)
Note: Both of these subsheets are protected (which means that you cannot change their data), as they are informational only. In the preceding figure, you can see these at the bottom left.
  8. After saving the file, return to the CalAmp application and click  in the Import Assets dialog box.

  9. Navigate to your updated assets.xlsx file and open it.

The dialog box will report the status of your upload (such as "100% Completed" below).

  10. If your import file includes new driver/asset associations (for drivers who had previous vehicle assignments), you can select Enable Automatic Reassignment of Drivers Assigned to an Existing Asset to use the new assignments in the assets.xlsx template. ( means selected, and  deselected.)

  11. Click Import.

A message will appear, saying that your assets are being imported. When the import is finished, you'll receive the Assets Imported success message.

    You'll have these options:

    • Download Results: Downloads an Excel file that lists the assets that were successfully imported, plus all the settings that were applied for them.

    • Download Errors: This will appear only if there were problems with adding any asset (such as if a required field wasn't filled in for it). This downloads an Excel file that lists the errors that caused any asset imports to fail. If this occurs, you can correct the errors in your assets.xlsx file and reupload it.

    • New Import: Begins the process of importing additional assets.
Note: If you are wondering why the example in the preceding figure states that 2 out of 4 assets were successfully imported, this is because this particular assets.xlsx file contained three existing assets and one new one — four rows of asset data — and only one of the prior assets had data changed. Therefore, the other two assets in the file had no changes and didn't need to be imported.
  12. If you are finished importing assets, click Done.

Your new assets will appear in the Admin - Assets list.
