To map asset activity in a specific geographic area, follow these steps:


Note: If you have just run the history for a previous asset, you'll need to clear the last history by refreshing the screen.


  1. Click  >> Tracking.
     
    The Tracking screen will open.
      
  2. On the map, zoom to the general area whose history of GPS events you want to see.
    Note: You'll draw the specific boundary later in the steps.
  3. Click  in the left toolbar.
    Note: The icon will be grayed out, but this doesn't mean that it's disabled.
    The Asset History options will open.
      
  4. In the Asset History options, click the From calendar picker and select the first date for the history to display.
     
  5. Click the To calendar picker and select the end of the date range.
    Caution: There is a limit to how much data can be included when mapping asset history: The number of assets multiplied by the number of days can't exceed 40.
  6. In the selector tree, click the check box of the group whose history you want to see.
     
     
    If it's a subgroup you need, first click the expansion arrow to the left of the name of the fleet group containing it and then select the subgroup's check box.
     
    If you want to see the history of GPS events for a single asset, follow these steps:
     
    1. Expand the group it's in.
       
      Initially, the More Options () icon will be shown.
        
    2. Click to display the first 100 assets in the group. (If you are looking for an asset beyond that, you can click  again [and so on] to continue loading vehicles until you find the one you need.)
        
    3. Select the check box to the left of the asset's name.
      Note: Alternatively, you can select a single vehicle by typing part of its name in the Search Groups & Assets by Name box (and wait a second). All assets whose identifiers match your criteria will appear in a drop-down list. Select the vehicle from the list.
  7. Optionally, you can select Labels to turn on asset labels on the map.
     
  8. Optionally, you can select Path for a feature that draws a line between each point on the map. (If you've selected multiple assets, each pathline will have its own color.)
     
  9. Optionally, you can select Live to plot a historical path up to a live, real-time view of the asset's current activities (if you are mapping a history of today's events).
     
  10. Click to draw a circular boundary, for a rectangle, and  for a polygon and follow the corresponding set of steps:
     
    Circular Boundary
     
    1. Move your cursor over the map, placing it in the center of the boundary you plan to draw.
         
    2. Click and hold and then drag your cursor out to create the circle. Release when it's the size you want.
        
  • Rectangular Boundary
     
    1. Move your cursor over the map, placing it at the top-left corner of the boundary you plan to draw.
        
    2. Click and hold and then drag your cursor down and to the right to create the rectangle. Release when it's the size you want.
        
  • Polygonal Boundary
     
    1. Move your cursor over the map, placing it at the top-left corner of the boundary you plan to draw.
        
    2. Click the first point of the shape and drag to the right.
        
    3. Click at the end of the first line.
       
    4. Drag away from that point in the direction of the second line of the shape.
        
    5. Click at the end of that second line.
       
    6. Drag away from the third point in the direction of a third line to continue your shape.
        
    7. Click at the end of that line.
       
    8. Repeat steps f and g for as many lines you need to create your shape.
        
    9. After you've drawn your final line, double-click.
         
  • When you finish drawing your boundary shape, any events for the time period you selected that occurred in that area will appear on the map.
    Caution: As mentioned earlier, there is a limit to how much data can be included when mapping asset history. If the number of assets multiplied by the number of days is larger than 40, you'll receive this warning:
      
    If you do, click Close and repeat steps 2 through 10, reducing either the time frame or the vehicle count.
    Only events within your boundary will appear on the map, and the data for the events will appear in the grid below the map, listed in chronological order.
      
    The grid's column headers are the same as for live Tracking, with the addition of Event Sequence, which lists sequence numbers for all the events generated by the asset's LMU. (See Tracking a Group or Asset for a description of the other column headers.)
     
    You can change what columns are displayed and in what order by following the steps at Customizing the Grid Layout. See Sorting and Filtering Column Data for information on how to sort and filter the grid.
    Note: If you want to make the map bigger, you can click on the left toolbar, which will make the results grid disappear. Click  again to restore the map/grid view.
     
    If you'd like to make the results grid bigger, you can click to hide the map. Click  again to restore the map/grid view.
     
    See Navigating the Tracking Screen's Map for an explanation of the map icons at the top left and right and other map features.
    If you click an event in the grid, the map will zoom in on it and display a pop-up with the following details (likewise, if you click an event label on the map, it will select its corresponding row in the grid and display the same pop-up):
      
    • The asset's name, state at the time the event was received (such as Parked or Moving), and the date and time the event was reported.
       
    • The group the asset is assigned to and its asset type (such as Vehicle).
       
    • The address of the asset's location when the event was received.
       
    • The number of engine hours the asset had driven at the time the event was received, its odometer value, the voltage of the device's battery, and the voltage of the vehicle's battery.
       
  • You can limit the types of events that are displayed on the map and in the grid as follows:
     
    1. In the map toolbar at the top right, click .
       
      The Filter by Event Category list will appear. By default, all event categories will be selected.
        
    2. Click the check box of any category of events you don't want to appear in the history results to deselect it.
       
    3. Repeat step b for all the types of events to remove from the display.
        
      After you deselect an event category, those events will be removed from the map and grid results.
